What if waste stopped at the source, and material started there?

The problem

Waste disposal and materials production never meet.

India pays to get rid of its organic waste, while plastic is still made almost entirely from fossil fuels.

Waste side 1,70,339 t of solid waste generated in India every day CPCB, Annual Report on Solid Waste Management 2021-22
Waste side Since April 2026 every bulk waste generator must process its wet waste on site Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, MoEFCC, via Drishti IAS
Waste side ₹5.3–9.3 / kg what hotels pay today for composting or biogas, with nothing to sell at the end EcoFresh analysis of ITC CII (FY2017-18) and Chalet Hotels (FY2026) disclosures
Materials side 99% of the 400+ million tonnes of plastic made each year comes from fossil fuels Human Rights Watch, 2023, citing CIEL
Materials side ~2.5 Mt global bioplastics capacity in 2024, a sliver of all plastic European Bioplastics, Market Data 2024

What we build

EcoFresh builds the link between waste and material.

  1. At the source

A compact unit at each site prepares the waste on site, splitting it into sugar liquor and fat.

  2. Collected

The prepared streams are picked up on a schedule, sealed and metered.

  3. At the hub

One shared hub serves a cluster of sites and is designed to ferment both streams into PHA bioplastic.

  4. To market

PHA powder goes to compounders and converters. Packaging brands drive the demand.

How a cluster works

One cluster is the building block. Five sites, one hub.

Schematic. Sites sit within about two kilometres of each other; the hub sits in the nearest industrial zone that permits it. Repeat the cell city by city.

Why this model

Decentralised where waste is made. Centralised where scale matters.

Option A

All centralised

  • ✕Raw, wet waste is trucked across the city and starts rotting within hours
  • ✕Sites keep paying to get rid of it, and still miss their on-site duty

Option B

All decentralised

  • ✕A full fermentation plant, operators and a pollution consent at every site
  • ✕Capital and permits multiply with every site added

EcoFresh

The split

  • ✓Disposal is solved at the source, where the law now asks for it
  • ✓The hub gets ready-made feedstock it would otherwise have to buy
  1. Disposal is a source problem

Food waste rots within hours, and since April 2026 bulk generators must process it on site. So the messy step happens where it is made, and the waste leaves sealed, stable and pumpable.

  2. Feedstock is what makes PHA expensive

The carbon source can represent more than half the overall production costs. Our hub ferments sugar liquor and fat that sites would otherwise pay to dispose of.

Alvarez Chavez, Raghavan and Tartakovsky, RSC Advances, 2022
  3. Fermentation needs scale

It needs trained operators, a pollution consent and large tanks, so it is done once, at one hub serving a cluster of sites.

Sites stop paying just to dispose. The hub stops buying feedstock. That difference is where EcoFresh earns.
